Stonewall Democrats Condemn the Dismantling of the Department of Education
San Antonio, Texas - The Department of Education was established by Congress by the 1979 “Department of Education Organization Act,” for the purpose of expanded federal funding and oversight of the US public education system. This national collaboration with the states is designed to send federal money to K-12 schools, targeted toward low-income and disabled students, and also enforces anti-discrimination laws.

Today we bear witness to radical Republicans dismantling the Department of Education. It is those who put Musk and Trump in office that helped facilitate this shameful moment in American history. This action has the potential to have lasting and painful effects on the US public education system.

We cannot, and we will not sit idly by. The time to be outraged, to protest, to hold our elected officials accountable is NOW. No more compromise and no more playing nice. We insist that our elected leaders carry the banner of democracy unapologetically and with the full force of We The People behind them.
